Testimonials

Real People. Real Stories.

The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association (CASAA) is collecting successful vape stories and testimonials from smokers who used smoke-free alternatives to quit or reduce their smoking. The testimonials are posted publicly on our website for everyone to see, and may be sent to lawmakers to fight anti-vaping legislation.

This public collection of successful vape stories is a powerful response to those who want to restrict access to e-cigarettes and other smoke-free products. Our goal is to present a large collection of compelling individual reports that will make it impossible for anyone to claim that substitution of low-risk alternatives (e-cigarettes, snus, and other smoke-free tobacco/nicotine products) is not a proven method for quitting smoking.

You are free to write your own story and include or exclude any details as you like. However, if you would like a few suggestions, below is a list of questions to consider:

  • How long did you smoke?
  • How long ago did you start using a smoke-free alternative?
  • Exactly what type of smoke-free products do you use (please do not include company/brand names), and has this changed over time?
  • Do you still smoke, and if so how much have you cut down?
  • Did you both smoke and use the smoke-free product for a time before quitting smoking entirely (if so, how long?), or did you switch immediately? Did you stop tobacco/nicotine entirely for a while and then start using a low-risk alternative?
  • What methods (NRT, Chantix, counseling, etc.) did you use to try to quit smoking before switching to a smoke-free alternative? How long were you able to go without smoking using these other methods before starting again?
  • What changes in the quality of your life (both positive and negative) have you noticed since adopting the smoke-free alternative?

You may prefer to write your story in a word processor and paste it here. You need to enter your entire story at once – you cannot start it and come back. There is no maximum length. Please remember that by submitting this, you are agreeing to have it posted online.

I have been vaping since 2014. I wont and refuse to smoke cigarettes. They havent caused me issues or health problems. I would like to keep and retain the right to buy vape products at a discount price over the internet. Vape shops have too high cost most the time and a high up charge. Its my right to vape and my right to buy if i want to. This isnt back in the prohibition era. Keep us out of big tobaccos war on vape and small businesses. We need our rights seen and heard. Do something about this! Its unamerican that we cannot buy and use how we choose. Were all adults whats the difference for those who purchase tobacco products and devices its the same thing. Why is this being isolated and chosen to ban. Doesnt make any sense unless you look whos really behind it. Those people you wont get away with this. The day will come when this will be reversed and over turned!

I am 33 years old and I smoked a pack of menthol cigarettes a day every day since I was 15. I never planned on quitting I was absolutely content with being a smoker for the rest of my life. I briefly dated someone who was obsessed with vaping it was his life and I tried it here and there it never really worked for me I couldn't find any juices I liked I just didn't get into it. I still tried off and on throughout the years and it just never took. Then I had my son 2 years ago, my lungs were going to hell. Anytime I went to the doctor they asked me if I had asthma because my lungs were so wheezy and just overworked. I still smoked on and off and then when he was just sitting there watching me smoke cigarettes through the window and then wanting to grab the cigarettes because it was something that mommy had i knew I couldn't do it anymore. I got a small little handheld vape and it just finally worked for me. I don't know what it was, if it was the baby or if it was the fact that I couldn't breathe but all of a sudden The vaping took and my lungs are better. My baby isn't going after cigarettes because he wants to touch what Mommy has. All around generally my lungs are better my health is better, I can breathe when I'm walking down the street, I can breathe when I'm chasing my son. And now government wants to try to take that away from me. I'm hoping that they'll eventually realize that vaping is saving lives because that's exactly what it's doing for me right now. If I continued to smoke, it wouldn't be long till it took me away from my beautiful babe boy

I was born in 1950. In 1962 I learned to inhale cigarettes. Except for a period of time between 1988 and 1992 (occasionally smoking) I have smoked 1 and 1/2 packs of cigarettes a day. In 2015 I quit cigarettes completely and began vaping to replace cigarettes. Politics and holier than thou attitudes have no clue to the good done by vaping. Listen to the people who have been through this.

I started smoking when I was 12. I tried to quit using patches, gum, Chantix, and nothing worked. In 2011 I saw an elderly women using a device at an outdoor swimming pool. I asked her what it was and where she got it. That day I went and brought an electronic cigarette and strawberry banana flavored 12mg Eliquid. I never even wanted another cigarette from that day forward. 10 years later I vape 3mg nicotine. Vaping truly works.

In 2013 my mom needed hip replacement. Her nurse and doctor told me to take her to a local vape shop because she was unable to quit smoking (53 year smoker). After 4 days my mom was smoke free so i decided to also try vaping (37 year smoker). After two days smoke free i asked my wife (30 year smoker) to please try vaping, in a matter one week we were all smoke free. On our second week smoke free we all transitioned to different fruit flavors having gotten some of our taste back (mom; strawberry, wife; raspberry menthol, me; strawberry lemonade) . Vaping was able to break the chains of combustible tobacco for us when nothing else worked.

I smoked for over 40 years and at the age 4 I ordered a free sample vape pen from a site and I liked it better than smoking and over a year advanced to a mod with rebuildable tanks and have not had anything else and I feel a lot better and no longer smell like a ash tray.

I started smoking when I was 13 years old. I am 62 years old. I was told that I had to quit smoking several times. I have tried patches and I am allergic to the glue and my doctor said I couldn't use it. I have epilepsy I can't take Chantex because it causes seizures, so my doctors won't let me use it. I have tried cold turkey and the longest I ever went was about a year and a half. The gum didn't help me at all and it taste is disgusting. I would get bronchitis and/or walking pneumonia several times a year. I hated the smell of smoke in my house, my car, my clothes, and my hair all the time. I was diagnosed with COPD and my doctor said I had to quit smoking. No matter how tried to quit I never succeeded. I started vaping 8 years ago and haven't gotten sick, and my doctor said that my lungs are cleared. I no longer have shortness of breath walking or exercising. I started at 12 mg of nicotine and am currently at 3 mg. I love Pina Colada as my favorite flavor. I hope that vaping can help smokers to quit when nothing else works for them. I don't want to go back to smoking cigarettes again. Vaping has saved my life and can help so many others to stop smoking and/or the loss of their life. Thank you.

I smoked cigarettes from age 16 to 19/20. I was a military member, and I am part of the LGBTQ+ community. I started smoking due to stress and anxiety, and other mental health and life issues, and it (as well as vaping) has filled a habitual gap that could have easily been taken by other substances. I tried to use NRT's like patches and chewing gum for over a year, and they just did not cut the manual and oral habit that I needed to fulfill to truly stop using cigarettes, as well as just not generally being an enjoyable or affordable set of products to use. My psychiatrist at the time, of all people, was the one who actually suggested vaping to me. I started transitioning to vaping around age 19, back in mid-2015. I used some small pod systems and gradually settled in the dual battery mod/open system tank & pod mod area for my preferred devices. I completely transitioned from smoking, to vaping, in early 2016. I was a less-than one pack a day smoker, and my initial use of vaping was 6-12mg E-liquids, completely comprised of fruit and food flavors (not menthol, mint, or tobacco, for clarification.) 6 years later, I use strictly 3mg E-liquids, when I even use nicotine E-liquids at all. A vast majority of my vaping use now is just for flavor/enjoyment, and to fulfill that manual and oral habit. My personal quality of life has improved quite a bit. My doctors at this point can not even find evidence that I ever smoked or used combustible products - my lungs are healthier than they were over 8 years ago, by comparison. I can breathe better, I can focus more, and most importantly: My mental health has improved. I've been able to reduce medications and worry less about health issues because of vaping- specifically speaking, I had a particular case of depression that was mostly linked to cigarette use, as some of the chemicals in cigarette smoke were causing imbalances and worsening some of my already existing mental health issues. In short, vaping has, I believe, saved & changed my life in many ways. I now manage a vape & glass chain, and assist other smokers and vapers in improving their own quality of life and knowledge about harm reduction, among other things.
