The status of HB 2801, known to advocates as “PMTA Registry” legislation, is showing the bill still in the House Committee on Federal and State Affairs. A hearing was held on February 20, 2024 in this committee, but no vote was taken and the bill has not moved since.

The Kansas Legislature had its “First Adjournment” on April 5th. According to the published 2024 Session Deadlines, “No bills considered after this date except BILLS VETOED BY GOVERNOR, OMNIBUS APPROPRIATIONS ACT AND OMNIBUS RECONCILIATIONS SPENDING LIMIT BILL. Note: Subject to suspension motion pursuant to Joint
Rule 4(k).” 

If enacted, this law would effectively make the state of Kansas an enforcement arm of the Food and Drug Administration empowering state authorities to enforce the disastrous federal anti-vaping regulations. This would put independent vape shops out of business, hundreds of workers out of jobs, and thousands of people at risk of returning to smoking, or delaying attempts at quitting.
