Stop an Excessive Federal Tax on Safer Nicotine Products [Concluded]
12.09.21 – Sen. Cortez Masto (D-NV) publicly opposes the “Build Back Smoking” tax and the language is removed from the funding bill. (WSJ [subscription] – “Democrats Drop Vaping Tax From Senate Plan as They Negotiate Bill Details“)
11.19.21 – The House has passed the Build Back Better bill, which includes the nicotine tax. Our last chance to have it removed is now in the senate. Please contact your senators ASAP and urge them to oppose this tax!
11.03.21 – [URGENT UPDATE] Following several drafts of the Build Back Better funding bill did not include an outrageous tax on nicotine, the tax has been added back in. Noteably, the 100% increase in cigarette taxes is being left out in favor of taxing safer, smoke-free products at the current rate of cigarettes.

Even if you’ve already participated in this Call to Action, it is always good to contact your federal officials and educate them about the harms of such taxes and other coercive policies that limit access to safer nicotine products.
The table below shows what the proposed tax would have been on bottles of nicotine-containing e-liquid. These prices do not include the price of the product itself, only the tax.
